Practices are scheduled by each team. Two practices are included with your race fee, more practices are available if your team wants to be more competitive. Beginning teams will get coaching and training from the Dragon Boat Racing Club. All practices begin July 9, 2001, and take place on the North Saskatchewan River. Technique: there are three or four different variations of dragon boat stroke technique. The EDBFA and the Edmonton Dragon Boat Racing Club will coach the use of the False Creek technique employed by the World Champion FCRCC dragon boat club. Competition and Athleticism: this sport is for everyone. Although some teams are very competitive, most teams are very new to the sport, and our novice divisions are always filled with many beginning paddlers. Teams are matched by their race times, so final races are always exciting and evenly-matched, regardless if you are a brand new team or seasoned veterans. There are seven divisions of competition, so you are guaranteed to find other teams in your league. Challenge Cups: several corporations also challenge each other for fun and prizes. Previous challenges include the Casino Cup, the Banker’s Cup, the Women's Cup, The Restaurant Cup, and the Engineer’s Cup. If your team would like to challenge another new or another existing team, let us know, and we can put a challenge division together for you!
